Yelich is an interesting target for the Yankees, but am I crazy to think Torres is more valuable than him? He’s younger and had more fWAR last year and costs less. I’d think the brewers would be kicking in more.
If you go by the MLB Trade Value calculator, Yelich has massive negative value. I initially was going to build a trade using it to equalize out value, but I don't really buy it. Yelich is still a pretty good player with the potential to be a great player again. I don't think the Brewers would straight salary dump him, especially considering their current window.
But if you're right, I wonder if a Donaldson for Yelich swap is more likely.
Yeah I agree. He’s definitely more valuable than Donaldson and I think a useful piece. Donaldson is also useful but at 6 or 7 years older is likelier to collapse completely, so he can’t fetch much. I could see Donaldson being in a Yelich deal to make the money work but I agree think the Yankees would have to chip in real value to get the brewers to bite.
Great discussion on this on the podcast! Thanks EJ.
I'll "simulcast" this article on SSTN tomorrow (Wednesday).
